As part of the Our Lincolnshire project, new performances were commissioned to explore what people in Lincolnshire think about their heritage. This part of the project has engaged people with their heritage in a new, creative and meaningful way. A series of weekend workshops, starting in February 2016, took place in four venues across Lincolnshire, culminating in final performances in late March and early April 2016.
The Our Lincolnshire project worked with Egg Box Theatre and Flickbook Theatre, as well as Lincolnshire One Venues to liaise with community groups in Gainsborough, Grantham, Pinchbeck (near Spalding) and Louth. Each company worked on two different projects in two of these areas – each performance resonated with local views on heritage.
People were asked to contribute their views on heritage via our heritage survey. Some of the responses we received were passed on to the performers, to give them an idea of the heritage issues that matter to people in Lincolnshire.
What happened, and where?
The ‘Our Lincolnshire’ performance opportunity was open to absolutely everyone in the county, and the aim was to connect the people of Lincolnshire with their local heritage and the issues relating to heritage that matter to them. Participation was free, as was attendance at the final events.
Volunteers were able to explore, create and perform alongside the theatre companies in their own piece of theatre, shown in the final week to a live audience.
GAINSBOROUGH
Egg Box Theatre developed the Gainsborough performance. Workshops took place every Saturday from Saturday 27th February to Saturday 2nd April, 10.30am-4pm. The final performance was on Saturday 2nd April at 6.30pm, at the Old Nick Theatre.
The Theatre played a key role in this performance, called ‘Nicked‘, with a story based on the ‘old nick’ – the police station as it was until 1974. Well done to all the performers, who put on a thought-provoking play about stories from the old court, and thanks to all those who contributed.
GRANTHAM
Flickbook Theatre developed the Grantham performance. Workshops took place every Saturday from Saturday 20th February to Saturday 26th March, 10am-4pm. The final performance was on Saturday 26th March 2016 at 6.30pm, at the Guildhall Arts Centre.
Flickbook had some great support from the St Peter’s Hill Players for their showcase, featuring a ‘play in a day’, live music and oral histories. Our thanks to the Players for their contributions to a truly unique event.
LOUTH
Flickbook Theatre created a performance at Louth. Workshops took place every Sunday from Sunday 14th February to Sunday 20th March 2016, 10am-4pm. The final performance was on Sunday 20th March 2016 at 4pm, at the Louth Playgoers Riverhead Theatre.
Well done to Flickbook for a great performance – our thanks to all of those who contributed and supported their event.
PINCHBECK
Egg Box Theatre created their performance at Pinchbeck, near Spalding. Workshops took place every Sunday from 21st February – 20th March 2016, 10.30am-4pm. The final performance was on Sunday 20th March 2016 at 6.30pm, at Pinchbeck Church Hall.
